Charlotte Amalie Grimm, the only sister of the Grimm brothers, managed the family household in Kassel following the death of the Grimms’ mother in 1808. In 1822, she married Ludwig Hassenpflug, a lawyer who was later to become the conservative minister of state of the province of Kurhessen. She was accompanied on her spa trip to Wildungen by her brother, the painter and graphic artist Ludwig Emil Grimm, and her friend Dorothea Wild, who later married Wilhelm Grimm.
