The city of Nantes plans another new garden in a former quarry and a brewery site on the banks of the Loire. In keeping with the growth of vegetation and structures, the company “Les Machines de l’Île de Nantes” will create a 40-meter-high artificial tree, which can be climbed up by the visitors and invites to “heron flights”.
Within the scope of a press conference and a workshop with the mayor of the city, Johanna Rolland, international experts were asked to evaluate the project. In addition to Tim Smit and Gilles Clément, the EGHN was represented by Christian Gruessen. All were very supportive for the project, as other projects in Nantes have shown that the combination of ecology, of the interests of the local population and of tourist attractiveness can be implemented successfully.
