Safeguard local heritage and cultural qualities
EGHN is cooperating with local producers and Slow Food
Parks and gardens, historic towns and villages, rivers and nature reserves are not the only attractions that Münsterland’s parkland has to offer. Farming and agricultural products have also shaped the region, its culture and its people.
Although “modern agricultural methods” are a threat to small farmers, traditional farming methods, indigenous animals and local products, the visitor can still discover, experience and enjoy these features in the Münsterland.
Initiatives, organisations and businesses are engaged in complementing the originality of this countryside with its architectural, historic and natural sights by a “food culture”. Visitors to this parkland are offered the opportunity of gaining an insight into the craft of food production and of sampling the products.
The businesses from the Münsterland that we would like to introduce here are quite rightly proud of the results of their endeavours and the quality of their products. Naturally they present their products to their European visitors as openly and hospitably as is traditional in many European regions, a practice which forms the typical character of a region (compare the regional route in Pays de la Loire). However, please remember when you are planning your visit that some businesses can only attend to visitors at certain times of the day because the farming routine or the production process require their attention at fixed times.
We are convinced that this extra planning will be forgotten as soon as you find out more about the Münsterland or taste the exquisite products of this unique cultural landscape.
We would like to thank Convivium Münsterland of Slow Food Deutschland for selecting the businesses and for providing the necessary information.
