The restructuring of the Rheinauehafen belongs to the largest city restructuring projects of the city of Cologne. Its direct location on the Rhine and near the city centre make it an attractive new quarter. A mixture of living and working, art and culture, and the many restaurants and service providers make the harbour an interesting destination not only for architecture enthusiasts.

The Rheinauehafen was built based on a design by the Hamburg-based bureau BRT – Bothe Richter Teherani and was completed in the summer of 2014. An axis stretching from the block of buildings termed “KAP at the south pier“ to the chocolate museum is the spine. In order to not compete with the historic buildings, the new residential and office buildings are kept in a modern, low-key architecture – except for the crane buildings which send a signal for the harbour and the city skyline on the left side of the Rhine.
