Since the 13th century, the cityscape of Münster has been adorned by St. Paulus-Dom (St Paul’s Cathedral) with its Romanesque architecture, Gothic extensions and facade constructed primarily of Baumberg sandstone. A noteworthy feature inside the cathedral is the 16th-century astronomical clock, which rings out its carillon every day. Every Wednesday and Saturday, a market with fresh products from the region takes place on the cathedral square. The Westphalian Museum of Art and Cultural History creates links within Münster through an “architecture of courtyards”. Staab architects from Berlin integrated the historical old building and the bright new building into city life by way of an uninterrupted passage.
