Nomadisch Grün, Berlin

European Garden Award 2013

At the Moritzplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg, a city district where high density and few green spaces can be found in the midst of many social problems, the Prinzessinnengarten (Princess Garden) has been in development since the summer of 2009.

Where there used to be fallow land for more than 60 years, nowadays a great diversity of vegetables, fruit and herbs is grown.

For the purposes of operation, active members, supporters, donors and friends founded the non-profit organisation Nomadisch Grün, which was a finalist for the Special Award of the Schloss Dyck Foundation. The exchange of experience between generations and across cultures ensures the use of cultivation techniques, communicates knowledge on the topics of biological diversity, urban ecology, climate adjustment, recycling, sustainable consumption, and has created a new place of urban living.
