EGAEGPgrau

The European Garden Heritage Network EGHN with its partners in 15 European countries (France, UK, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, and Switzerland) started the European Garden Award in 2010.

According to the traditions of EGHN and based on its objectives and specific skills and experiences, the European Garden Award follows a broad approach.

There are two standard categories with awards handed out each year (with the exception of 2020) and additional categories added in some years.

The two standard categories are:

  • DESIGN OR CONCEPT OF A CONTEMPORARY PARK OR GARDEN
  • MANAGEMENT OR DEVELOPMENT OF A HISTORIC PARK OR GARDEN

Other categories include:

  • SPECIAL AWARD OF THE SCHLOSS DYCK FOUNDATION
  • PROTECTION OF DEVELOPMENT OF A CULTURAL LANDSCAPE
  • LARGE SCALE GREEN NETWORKS AND DEVELOPMENT CONCEPTS

In 2022 two new categories were added:

  • CLIMATE MITGATION MEASURES IN PARKS AND GARDENS
  • SPECIAL AWARD OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURY

Nominations are made by members of the international jury (see below) and – for the first time in 2020/2021 – by an open call too. The evaluation considers aspects such as innovative implementation and management, urban development aspects, sustainability, good visitor or educational services or voluntary work as well as the high quality of restoration or modern design of a park or garden. The winners are sought after as inspirational and as models for other projects.

The selection of winners will not at all be limited to the sites, partners and countries within the EGHN network.

Information about all winners can be found by using the above dropdown menu “Garden Award”.

The winners are announced and all winners receive their awards in September during a festive event, often at Schloss Dyck (Germany), but also at other places such as Hamburg (2015) and Berlin (2017).
