In addition to its partnership with some 210 parks and gardens in 21 European countries, the EGHN has various forms of cooperation with other networks and organisations in Europe. In this way, the experience and offerings of the EGHN partners can reach even more professional groups and benefit from their expertise and activities.
These collaborations can be based on temporary projects, but can also be designed for longer-term cooperation in order to achieve various goals, e.g. strengthening the position of parks and gardens in urban and regional development, promoting sustainable garden tourism, providing training opportunities or international knowledge exchange on ways to adapt parks and gardens to climate change.
Swedish Gardens
From North to South, from royal gardens to natural alpine gardens, without forgetting all the individualistic interpretations of garden cultures in between.
Sweden’s green cultural heritage lives in its parks. Inspiration, knowledge, history, biodiversity and a pure lust for life – Sweden’s fantastic parks offer experiences for all of your senses.
In the coming years, the Swedish Gardens and the EGHN will work more closely together to strengthen the exchange of experience, lobby together and attract more visitors and supporters. Read more about the 34 gardens that work together in the Swedish Garden Network:

Project: Craft skills for garden conservation
In this EU Erasmus+ project, we are working with six partners from Sweden, the UK, Norway and the Netherlands, led by the Norwegian “Vea – Green College”. The project aims to create learning and exchange opportunities in the field of conservation of historic parks and gardens across Europe. Various activities will be organised between 2022 and 2024, including:
– nine full-day winter webinars, each introducing a topic from the field and preparing the following thematic workshop
– nine practical workshops to introduce and train the necessary practical skills
– five seminars/conferences to communicate the results and ensure their use in practice.
The events will be evaluated and appropriate learning programmes will be developed, which will then be open to all and hopefully lead to permanent exchange programmes.

(Initiative) Alliance for Historic Gardens in a Changing Climate (IHGIK)
For the first time, experts from all over Germany are pooling their expertise in the care, research and communication of historic gardens and parks in the IHGIK in order to counter the consequences of climate change, protect green cultural monuments throughout Germany from loss and preserve established culture across generations.
The initiative alliance Historic Gardens in a Changing Climate was founded in Berlin in 2019 on the initiative of the Verein Schlösser und Gärten in Deutschland e.V. (Association of Palaces and Gardens in Germany) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gartenkunst und Landschaftskultur e.V. (German Society for Garden Art and Landscape Culture).
The IHGIK is based at the DGGL Head Office in Berlin. It brings together a broad alliance of state, municipal and private garden and park administrations, foundations and associations from the green sector and academia. The German National Committee for Monument Protection (DNK) acts as patron at federal level. More information on the alliance’s website.
